"Announcing A Bailout" ::

Isaiah 61:1-11 (Pastor Neuendorf) God commanded Isaiah to tell the people good news about his plan to rescue them. But I wonder if this "bail-out" was received any differently than those that we hope for today. With some positive thoughts... but lots of skepticism.

2 Peter 3:8-12 (Pastor Neuendorf) Peter urges us, in view of how temporary all our earthly things will be and how soon the Lord may come again, to ask ourselves "what kind of people ought we to be?" A challenging question to be sure. If we could swap out parts like we do with little Lego people, what KIND of people would we want to make ourselves?

Unfortunately, our worship service recordings have failed for the last 2 Sundays. We're very sorry that we are unable to post those sermons to the website. Keep coming back - because we'll keep working on it. Thanks for your patience.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 (Pastor Wentzel) Given that title, I'd probably run away from such a sermon, but Jesus says that we are to use his gifts for his kingdom. Today, let's take the strategies laid out by Paul and apply them to the directive given by Christ. Strategy for approaching difficult days: keep away; be sober; dress properly; and encourage one another.

Amos 5:18-24 (Pastor Neuendorf) The people of Israel, the northern kingdom after the split, thought that they were in for only good things from God. After all, God must be on their side. Look at all the nice things they had! But Amos was called to warn them that God's judgment would not be joyful. What do we expect? Do we pin our hopes on candidates or on policies? Do we expect that if we only get our man elected then everything will be alright? God is not impressed with us. If he comes with justice, then our last day would not be a happy one either. Thankfully, it is God who has elected us today. He has chosen us because he loves us.

(Matthew 9:1-8 -- Pastor Wentzel) For Reformation Sunday Pastor Wentzel preaches a sermon written by Martin Luther. Note: during the children's sermon he had asked the children to respond each time during his sermon that he said the words, "Take heart, son, your sins are forgiven." They were to say, "THAT'S the Gospel." Unfortunately, they didn't cooperate in the 8 a.m. service (the one recorded). Too sleepy. But the response was enthusiastic in the other services and drove home the wonder of the Gospel.

(Matthew 11:12-19 - Pastor Wentzel) John the Baptist came and preached some mighty stern words to the important people of his day. Wouldn't you love it if he could do the same to the leaders of our world? What if John wrote to us... what would he call us?

(Matthew 21:33-46 Pastor Neuendorf) Like the wicked tenants in Jesus' parable of the vineyard, we would love to be out of debt. We don't want to owe anything to the owner of the vineyard. Many people think they can do this by making "payments" on their debt to God, little gestures of obedience. But there is only ONE way for us to get out of this impossible debt.

(Ezekiel 18:1-4, 25-32 Pastor Wentzel) The Israelites complained that God was unjust, that he punished the children for their father's sins. In many ways we do suffer for the sins of our parents. But there is more that parents can hand on than just sin.

(2 Corinthians 3:2-3 - Pastor Wentzel with James and Christel Neuendorf) "You yourselves are our letter..." As our congregation sends our James and Christel as missionaries, they serve as a letter from us to tell the world of God's love. God has a letter in your life also - he is writing a letter through you that may be read by everyone around you.
