Amos 5:18-24 (Pastor Neuendorf) The people of Israel, the northern kingdom after the split, thought that they were in for only good things from God. After all, God must be on their side. Look at all the nice things they had! But Amos was called to warn them that God's judgment would not be joyful. What do we expect? Do we pin our hopes on candidates or on policies? Do we expect that if we only get our man elected then everything will be alright? God is not impressed with us. If he comes with justice, then our last day would not be a happy one either. Thankfully, it is God who has elected us today. He has chosen us because he loves us.
