Learning and Growing

We care for others, meeting many physical and emotional needs, but St. Paul members are also committed to learning and growing together in faith. Just as St. Paul challenged the intellectuals of Athens, sharing the Gospel on Mars Hill, our congregation wants to meet the intellectual challenge of faith in Ann Arbor (sometimes called The Athens of the West). Here are some of the ways we're learning together…

  • Sunday School is something everyone knows about. But it's not just for children! Our youth and adults are also challenged by a variety of classes at both campuses – 9:30 a.m. downtown and 10:30 a.m. at our Earhart campus.
  • LifeLight is for people who want to dig deeper. Taking one book of the Bible at a time, LifeLight students do about 30 minutes of preparation for 5 days before each class. Then they compare notes and learn from one another as well as from the instructor. LifeLight currently meets on Tuesday mornings at the Liberty campus.
  • SPOTS! That's what we call our weekly devotion. It stands for "St. Paul: On The Same Page." (Only we dropped that last 'p' because SPOTSP didn't really work.) By following the readings in SPOTS we are all reflecting on some of the same parts of God's Word together, even when we're apart. And those who choose to read the entire appointed reading for each day will read through the whole Bible every two years. Along with SPOTS we provide various opportunities to help families of all kinds share their faith together. (SPOTS is available online. AND we provide a weblog at which some of the daily readings are discussed in more depth to help people through the confusing places.)
  • Christ Care is what we call our small group ministry. Meeting in member homes, each group is different. Some spend more time in Bible study than others – some have mostly families with small children and others include more empty-nest families. But every group has this in common, they encourage one another in faith. Contact our Director of Family Life Ministry to get connected! (<=email link to Ade Zielke)
  • Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a summer time Christian education event and a wonderful celebration of our walk together with Jesus Christ. Children ages 3 – 10 gather for a weeklong experience centered on God's word, music, praise, arts & crafts, recreation and more. We typically schedule this annual ministry event during the fourth week of June. Event runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at our Earhart Rd campus.
  • St. Paul has numerous other chances to learn and grow that are scheduled less regularly. The Charity Circle (targeted to the elderly women of our congregation) meets several times a year for a luncheon. Instruction in the basic teachings of the Christian faith is offered usually in the spring and in the fall. Watch our newsletter, the Unity, for new opportunities!
