Serving The Church

Adult Choir
The adult choir leads worship in at least one service most Sundays and also sings on festivals of the church year. New members are always welcome and encouraged to join. The adult choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM.

Handbell Choir
The handbell choir rehearses once a week and provides music for worship throughout the church year. This choir meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 PM. New members are always welcome. The ability to read music is helpful.

Brass Choir
The brass choir rehearses between church services on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM. This group provides music for worship throughout the church year but especially for church festivals. New members are always welcome.

Individual Instrumentalists
Individual instrumentalists are encouraged to offer their talents to the church by contacting the Director of Music at the church office. Accompanists, woodwind, brass, and string players all have many opportunities to use their talents to the glory of God. In particular, we would often like instrumental accompaniment to hymns at our 9:15 service (at the Earhart Campus) to supplement the piano.

Middle School Choir
Children's choirs are an important part of the music ministry of our congregation. 6th through 8th grade students at St. Paul School participate in this choir which sings two or three times each semester.

Children's Choirs
In addition to the Middle School Choir, the lower grade classes of the school sing occasionally for our services. Under the direction of Alaine Massey, they sing when their class is scheduled, approximately twice each semester.

What makes worship a meaningful experience? People pay attention to much more than the sermon and the music. They hope to find a warm and welcoming congregation. You can be a part of that experience by assisting with:

  • Ushering
  • Welcome ministry
  • Audio recording
  • Altar preparation

Get connected with these groups through the Church Office.

Do you want to get close to someone in need and make a real difference in the life of a hurting person? Would you like to help, but you don't have the time for a major commitment? At St. Paul there are a variety of levels at which you can serve.

Everyone can pray for others. By subscribing to our email prayer ministry you can receive a list of concerns for which our prayers have been requested. (email link to office – can this put in a pre-set message?)

You can also be a blessing by visiting those in need. Our LinC visitors (Love in Christ) stop in to see members who are sick or shut-in. The visit doesn't require any professional skill, just a loving and joyful heart.

Want an easy excuse for a visit? Some of our members deliver tapes of the Sunday services to shut-ins. We need people to help with recording, duplicating, and delivery. We call it SPROUT3 (for St. Paul: Reaching OUT Through Tapes – can you tell someone here likes acronyms?).

Besides these simple visiting and prayer opportunities, St. Paul members provide much more. Our Stephen Ministry provides 50 hours of training to members who are willing to be sensitive listeners to people in crisis. Grief ministry, divorce recovery, life transitions, and much more are reasons that people welcome a Stephen Minister to come alongside. Volunteers in this ministry make a significant commitment, but they also provide a wonderful blessing.

In addition to these ministries among the members and friends of our congregation, we also care in many ways for people in the world around us. You can get more information about any of these opportunities by emailing the chairperson of our Board of Care.

St. Paul encourages parents to actively participate in school life, supporting our students and staff and fostering productive and positive relationships between parents and school. Various volunteer opportunities enable parents to select areas of interest. Many parents help out with Parent-Teacher Leagues (PTL) - sponsored school activities. Family fellowship events such as an annual picnic and the PTL Benefit Auction build relationships among school families and staff. Assisting in the classroom, library and computer lab enriches our programs, and our kitchen volunteers enable us to offer a complete hot lunch program.

St. Paul utilizes a variety of fundraising opportunities through the Parent-Teacher League. Its purpose is to bring a closer relation and better understanding between the Board of Christian Education, teachers and parents of St. Paul Lutheran School. It is also set up to encourage a more intelligent cooperation in the training of the child, and to promote such united efforts that will secure for the child the highest advantages in his/her spiritual, mental physical and social development. The PTL also conducts educational meetings throughout the year for parents and teachers to attend.

The PTL board is a voting board that decides where fundraising monies might be well spent to enhance the education of our students and continuing educational needs of our staff. These decisions are made with the input of the principal, teachers, staff and parents.

Fundraising efforts consist of a few larger events (i.e., auction, script program, market day program) and a few smaller events (i.e., pizza sales, gift wrap sales, etc). PTL tries to limit the numerous promotional sales and hand picks those fundraising opportunities that the school families and their patrons would find to be most beneficial.

In teaching proper stewardship of the many blessings given to us, we promote mission work, service projects and community outreach. Recent projects have included making Valentine cards for Mott Children's Hospital, collecting and filling bags ("Hope Totes") with toiletries to be distributed through the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, and visiting nursing homes. We have also collected offerings for such ministries as International Child Care and Hearts for Jesus. The eighth-graders do a fall and spring cleanup for our school grounds.
